As I was reading the Palm Beach Post website this morning this article was on the homepage.

It says that people are leaving the church to find spirituality, and gives examples of Obama and Oprah each leading the movement. This is happening in my own hometown, while West Palm Beach is not small town America it is also not New York City. I think, not only does it reflect the state of those leaving the church, it also reflects on the church itself. The Gospel is the most relevant, captivating and meaningful story ever told yet people are leaving the pew, becuase they are not finding any meaning in church.

That is a scary testimony about our preaching and our worship.  We can try hard to make people “experience Jesus” with lights, worship, and candles, and tell them we are culturally relevant with coffee and seven jeans (I enjoy all of the above) but if we don’t preach the Gospel we are just telling people, “thats all we got” and instantly our church and our message is void of meaning and purpose.
